Abstract
Prolonged symptoms, such as motor disability, may persist chronically in covid-19 survivors, affecting their self-care and quality of life. This work aims to verify the relationship between the difficulty in cleaning the oral cavity and self-care of patients 12 months after admission to Intensive Care Units post-severe covid-19 at a University Hospital in Southern Brazil. This is an analytical cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, with sociodemographic, clinical, health self-assessment data and the WHODAS 2.0 scale of patients (n=108) discharged from HURCG from March 2020 to March 2022. The analysis of data was carried out through Data Mining in a Knowledge Discovery in Databases process, using dimensionality reduction models. Patients were grouped according to their characteristics into High Risk and Lower Risk. The variables capable of classifying the difficulty of cleaning the oral cavity were obtained, including self-care. In patients with more serious health conditions, lower socioeconomic status and greater occurrence of disability, there is a high risk of having difficulty cleaning the cavity despite having a very positive self-perception of general and oral health. Patients admitted to the covid-19 ICU have difficulty with oral hygiene despite having a good self-perception of health, due to passive acceptance of their conditions.
